Starting June 13, the weeklong interactive music-fest F'N MTV (the user-generated music video feedback/review recap) will kick off each Friday night with F'N MTV Premieres, lit with Coemar's ParLite LED and Infinity Wash XL lights.
The Impact Video-outfitted multi-screen show, featuring A-list artists performing and chatting about their newest videos, emanates from L.A.-based Renmar Studios and is what lighting designer/director Tom Kenny calls "high-profile: a huge undertaking, huge production." For it, Kenny, the show's producers, and set designer Scott Storey all wanted a very big, very impressive lighting system, to be provided by Video Equipment Rentals.
There was no doubt in Kenny's mind that Coemar ParLite LED and Infinity Wash XL lights were to be essential to the task at hand. "We're using 140 ParLite LEDs and 60 Infinity Wash XLs," he says. "The ParLites are so versatile. They work for me architecturally, and the aesthetics are beautiful. The Infinity Wash XLs are workhorse-hardy. Their colors and power are unmatched."
The ParLite LED lights, 36 Luxeon LEDs (1W each), come complete with a declared life of 100,000 hours, full-range dimming, synchronized or random strobe effects, and infinite colors generated by a convergent RGB color system, the company says. They also feature four different automatic programs of color changing and fading. The 1,400W Infinity Wash XL lights incorporate a 6-80 degree zoom, full-range dimming, pan/tilt, and indexable beam shaping in 360 degrees. They also sport a CMY color-mixing system and a variety of effects.
"Our very big, beefy, studio-in-the-round is being shot 360, so we need strongly-saturated beams of light," Kenny says. He adds,"ParLite Leds are fantastic. They're seen everywhere, and I use them as much as I can. And the Infinitys have become my main light of choice. I've been using them since they came out. The gobo fixtures are great."
Working with the MA Lighting grandMA console and the "nice and strong, very compact" Hazebase base hazers, Kenny says, "For the looks we wanted, this package works best!" (hasebase, with products manufactured by Ottec DmbH, is a leading supplier for professional fog machines, hazers, and fog liquids. With representation/distribution throughout Europe and Canada, the company is now represented/distributed in the U.S. by Inner Circle Distribution.)
